What’s Cooler than Twitter and Facebook?

Acronyms!

Acronyms!

What are acronyms?

According to Wikipedia: Acronyms and initialisms are abbreviations that are formed using the initial components in a phrase or name. These components may be individual letters as in LOL.

I realized social networking continues to grow and typing a message with as few words as possible is challenging.  Many adults don’t know what LMAO, SMH, TTYS, or ROFL mean. Considering some social networking sites limit how many characters can be used on microblogging and status updates, knowing the most common acronyms is a must.

Twitter only allows 140 characters and Facebook allows 420 characters maximum which means your message has to be short and to the point.

I sat down with two teenagers, my daughter and sister who love to phone text and use AIM (America Online’s Instant Messenger) for chat and asked them to give me the most common and useful acronyms.
