Acronyms!

What are acronyms?

According to Wikipedia: Acronyms and initialisms are abbreviations that are formed using the initial components in a phrase or name. These components may be individual letters as in LOL.

In my journey through “What WTF do those letters mean?”

I realized Social Networking continues to grow and typing a message with just a few words possible is a bit challenging.  Many adults don’t know what LMAO, SMH, TTYS, ROFL mean.  Especially when some Social Networking sites limit how many characters can be used on microblogging and status updates.

Twitter only allows 140 characters and Facebook 420 characters maximum which means your message has to be short and to the point.

I sat down with two teenagers, my daughter and sister who love to phone text and use aim for chat and asked them to give me the most common and useful acronyms.

Here’s a list of acronyms:

• ILY- i love you
• ILY2- i love you too
• FB- facebook
• LMBO- laughing my butt off
• LOL-laughing out loud
• LML- laughing mad loud
• ROFL- rolling on the floor
• TTFN- tata for now
• BRB- be right back
• G2G- got to go
• HBU- how about you
• BFF- best friend forever
• BFFL- best friend for life
• BF- boyfriend
• GF- girlfriend
• IDK- i don’t know
• IDC- i don’t care
• NM- nothing much
• NVM- nevermind
• L8R- later
• W/- with
• JK- just kidding
• JP- just playing
• IM- instant message (aim)
• TTYS-talk to you soon
• WTF?-what the f**k?
• SMH- shaking my head
• WE-whatever
• OMG- oh my God
• OMB- oh my Buddha
• WTH?- what the h3ll?
• TTYL-talk to you later
• NP-no problem
• IDR- i don’t remember
• JC- just chilling
• IMY- i miss you
